Veterans History Project: Interview Training for Volunteers

Adults & teens 15+

Help share the legacy of our veterans—one story at a time. Become part of a meaningful effort to honor their service, connect generations, and ensure these voices are never forgotten.

We invite community members of all backgrounds to assist in preserving the stories of our nation’s veterans through the Veterans History Project (VHP). This volunteer training is open to anyone interested in learning how to conduct meaningful, respectful interviews with family members and others of any background, with a focus on veterans’ interviews about their military experiences. We provide all the materials you’ll need along with step-by-step guidance on how to carry out interviews that honor and capture the voices of our veterans.

The Veterans History Project is an initiative of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and a national effort to collect and preserve firsthand accounts from U.S. war veterans. These personal narratives are archived and made publicly accessible to help current and future generations understand the human experiences behind military service. You can explore many of these moving accounts at loc.gov/vets.
